Meet Crystal, a young woman campaigning for #faceequality
Name: -Crystal Marshall
What do you do? – Currently doing work experience for stage management
What’s one thing you want people to know about you?
-I want people to know that Rome wasn’t built in a day. People always are amazed by how ‘confident’ I am now but it took me almost two years to leave my room and be in society again. Don’t get me wrong even though I don’t mind certain stares as much, there are still some places I would never go to and I’m not 100% fully confident yet in most situations. Confidence is built at a slow pace (in my experience) and I need to be in full control and be surrounded by people I know to feel comfortable. I’m slowly getting over this.
What’s your #visibledifference?
– My visible difference is my face. I had the majority of my top jaw removed and my right cheek due to cancer (Maxifacial osteosarcoma) I had when I was 18.
What’s one thing you want people to know about your #visibledifference ?
-The one thing I want people to know about my visible difference is even though I have half a nose, my cheek is bigger than average and I have no top teeth, I am still a normal 21 year old year old woman who has the same dreams, aspiration, fears and thoughts that a normal 21 year old has. Just because I look different it doesn’t change how I feel inside. Also I am not going to have more surgery just so I can be liked by people, but I’m doing it for ME and ME only so I can live a more happier and healthy life.
